The Story Behind Sewyers
Marissa Bull-Van De Ligt, Founder of Sewyers was born from the belief that where you come from does not define where you can go. Rooted in Cree culture, resilience, and creativity, every piece carries a story of survival, identity, and connection. What began as beadwork became a way to honor the generations before me while inspiring the generations still to come.
I am a Cree woman from Goodfish Lake, Alberta, and a believer in the power of stories. Not because stories entertain us, but because they remind us who we are. Long before Sewyers became a business, I was learning how to survive my own story.
My path has been shaped by hardship, loss, healing, and rediscovery. There was a time in my life when I was sick, broken, and uncertain if I would ever become the person I dreamed of being. I found myself standing at a crossroads between the life I had known and the life I hoped was still possible. The journey back was not easy. It demanded courage I did not know I possessed and faith I could not always see.
